The Relationship between EQ-5D and Optimal Sleep Duration among Community Dwelling Elderly

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify relationship between health related quality of life and sleep duration among community dwelling elderly.

Methods: The Community Health Behavior Survey Data was used in this study. The sample consisted of 57,880 people aged over 65 years old. Data were analyzed with x2 test, ANOVA and multinominal logistic regression analysis. In this study, health related quality of life was measured by EQ-5D consisted of mobility, self-care, usual activity, pain, and depression.

Results: After adjusting for socio-economic, health status, and health behavior variables, mobility, self- care, and usual activities limitations were associated with higher odds of longer sleep(¡Ã9 hours). Pain and depression were associated with higher odds of short sleep(¡Â5 hours). Depression was associated with a highers odds of longer sleep(¡Ã9 hours).

Conclusion: It was suggested that a development on health promotion program and policies are required for
optimal sleep duration of the elderly.
